Ari suddenly has glasses, and she loves them!
On 3/8, we got a note from the school that she had done poorly on a vision screen in January. They repeated the screen in March and got the same results. Amazingly, when I went to follow up with Peds Ophthalmology, they had an opening on 3/14. (We have had waits of literally months for appointments for Cameron when he was little, so I was stunned when they could get us in immediately.) Eye doctor confirmed that she's not seeing well. Her vision was at 20/40 in one eye and 20/125 in the other. Her eyes also drift/cross as she's trying to focus. (Firm finger shake at myself; how have I not noticed this?!)
She picked some cute frames, and her new glasses came in record time. These were the first pictures, taken when she first got home with her new beloved fashion accessories.
For now, we are tucking the earpieces underneath her BAHA band. I'm not sure that will be enough for a long-term solution. Asian features are hard to fit with standard glasses frames available in the USA (broader faces, higher or prominent cheekbones, and low nasal bridge.) There are some specialty Asian Eyewear lines, but I hope we won't have to go there, at least until she's older. As we know, even though glasses are expensive, glasses for young children have to be viewed with the realistic possibility of expendability. The optician really tweaked her nose pieces so the glasses could rest on her nose and not only on her cheeks. Then, there's the additional complication of nowhere to hook the earpiece on the microtic side. I've been researching accessories and may have to buy some extra pieces for her. I'm hoping NO STRAP (except maybe for during soccer).
In the meantime, she looks cute, is thrilled, and hopefully can see as never before!

she is adorable! Really cute glasses. Hope that she better to the point she WANTS to wear them, like our boys and Denise huh?
